SBI Investigating Deaths of Fayetteville Officer and His Wife

Raleigh, NC – On Friday, April 28, 2023, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) received a request from Fayetteville Police Chief Kemberle Braden to investigate the deaths of Domingo Tavarez-Rodriguez, 53, a police officer with the Fayetteville Police Department and his wife, Yenitza Arroyo-Tavarez, 44. The two were found deceased inside their residence from gunshot wounds. While the SBI investigation continues, the preliminary investigation shows the couple died as the result of a murder-suicide. According to the preliminary autopsy report from the medical examiner’s office, Mrs. Arroyo-Tavarez died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds and Mr. Tavarez-Rodriguez died from a single gunshot wound. Based on the preliminary investigation and the medical examiner’s preliminary findings, there is no reason to believe anyone else was involved and there is no reason to believe there is a threat to the community or to law enforcement. Because this is an ongoing investigation, no additional information is available at this time.
