(PASQUOTANK COUNTY, NC) - On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Pasquotank County Sheriff requested assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) regarding an officer-involved shooting at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC. Below is the preliminary information the Sheriff and Medical Center Personnel have given us. At approximately 1:13 am, a male patient pointed a handgun at several hospital personnel and security staff. The hospital staff called 911, and multiple agencies were dispatched.
Pasquotank County Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the scene at 1:18 am and entered the facility. Shortly after, the deputies encountered the male subject in a triage room, where he pointed the gun at them. In response, the deputies discharged their firearms, striking the subject. The male subject received treatment from hospital staff but was later pronounced deceased. Elizabeth City Police Officers also responded but did not discharge their weapons.
The SBI is currently on the scene collecting evidence and investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be submitted to the First Prosecutorial District Attorney for review. Additional details, if available, regarding this case, will be shared through press releases, our social media platforms, and the SBI website at www.NCSBI.gov.
