Special Response Team

The SBI's Special Response Team provides services to the SBI as well as to other law enforcement agencies requiring the use of a specialized team to save lives and apprehend violators of the law. SRT agents are highly trained and proficient in the use of special equipment, skills, and tactics. The team responds to such situations as:

• Hostage rescue;
• Barricaded felons;
• High risk arrests, drug buys and search warrants;
• Clandestine laboratory response;
• Dignitary protection details; and
• Terrorist acts

In addition to the stringent demands of the team, SRT agents also maintain a regular case load at the district level. SRT agents undergo continuous training to keep their skills up-to-date.

The SRT has existed in some form since the early 70's. The team has evolved into a unit that is recognized at the local, state, and federal levels for their capabilities. Other law enforcement agencies that do not have such capabilities within their own agency, have a problem which exceeds their capabilities, or are otherwise unable to respond in a timely and efficient manner have come to depend on the SRT for assistance.
