DDE/NICS Research Unit
The DDE/NICS Research Unit is responsible for transposing criminal arrests, custody information and applicant card submissions from mailed-in (inked) fingerprint cards to a Descriptive Data Entry (DDE) screen for electronic submission to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Each fingerprint card is manually edited for clarity and mandatory fields to ensure that the charges meet qualifications under N.C.G.S. 15A-502. Modifications are made as necessary to the CCH and NIST Archive system. The Data Processing Unit processes all Juvenile fingerprint cards and establishes them as "non-divertible juvenile" records or as "adjudicated juvenile delinquent" records under NCGS 7B-2102 and 7B-2200. This Unit is responsible for researching final dispositions for the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). This Unit is responsible for processing all incoming mail and disseminating to appropriate personnel within the CIIS Section. Department of Correction status changes, and CCH consolidations are also processed in this Unit.
