Criminal Information and Identification Section

The Criminal Information and Identification Section is under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Wendy Brinkley.

The Criminal Information and Identification Section is North Carolina's central repository for the Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) based upon positive fingerprint identification. This section receives, processes, and stores Criminal History Record Information based on fingerprint cards received from different law enforcement agencies and prison systems and links the final disposition information provided by the courts to each entry. In addition, the Criminal Information and Identification Section is responsible for training, developing training material, audits and maintaining the state's Sex Offender Registry File. The Criminal Information and Identification Section is also responsible for entering the fingerprints into its Computerized Criminal History File and indexing them to the FBI's criminal history files; thereby making these prints accessible to criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies throughout North Carolina and the nation. These records are not considered public record and are therefore, regulated by strict rules, regulations and North Carolina General Statutes.
