Air Wing
The Air Wing is under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Durb Turner. The aviation unit was created to support the SBI, local and federal enforcement operations. The SBI Air Wing operates the four Bureau aircrafts with three full time pilots.
The Bureau's single engine aircraft has been used for enforcement and administrative transportation, surveillance, photo missions, reconnaissance, eradication, searches and training.
The aviation unit provides aerial support for the Bureau's marijuana eradication program for the state of North Carolina.
The statewide eradication efforts were successful in locating and eradicating about 60,000 plants in the fiscal year 2000 - 2001. The program success is due to a joint effort of the SBI and other state agencies.
