Professional Standards Division

The Professional Standards Division is under the direction of Assistant Director Erik A. Hooks. AD Hooks has a master's degree from North Carolina State University. AD Hooks graduated from the 21st session of the Special Agent Academy in 1989. AD Hooks has served as an agent in the Northeastern District, the Southeastern District, and the Chief Investigator's Office. In January 1999 Assistant Director Hooks was promoted to Criminal Specialist in Special Investigations. AD Hooks served as the Special Agent in Charge of Professional Standards from November 2001 until his appointment to Assistant Director in April 2005.

Professional Standards conducts and coordinates certain public corruption and government official misconduct investigations and investigations for the North Carolina Judicial Standards Commission.

Professional Standards is also responsible for the receipt and evaluation of reported theft and misuse of state property.

Additionally, Professional Standards is responsible for the internal affairs function of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and administrative staff inspections throughout the Bureau.
