Field Operations

Assistant Director Bill Weis obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Rider University.  He also received a Masters in Criminal Justice from North Carolina Central University.   In 2001, Bill attended the 204 th session of the FBI National Academy.

AD Weis attended the 11 th session of the SBI Academy in 1979.  His work assignments include: Resident Agent in Chapel Hill, the Unsolved Homicide Team, Special Response Team and undercover drug investigations and drug interdiction.

In 1997 he was promoted to Assistant Special Agent-in-charge of the Capital District.  In 2002, he was named Interim Supervisor of the DNA Section and in December 2002 was promoted to Deputy Assistant Director of the Crime Lab.

In October 2005, AD Weis was promoted to the Assistant Director of Administrative Services and in December 2006 became Assistant Director of the Field Division.  The Field Operations Division provides expert investigative assistance to the Sheriffs, Chiefs, District Attorneys, and Judges when requested. To accomplish these investigations, the Bureau has more than 200 agents and clerical personnel assigned to Field Operations.

Field Operations include: SBI Field Procedure, Field District Operations, and Statewide Coordinators in Arson, Polygraph, Crisis Negotiators, and Crime Scene. Field agents are also assigned to Joint Terrorism Task Forces throughout the state.
