January 04, 2008 Stokes County **Fire Investigation**
On Wednesday, 1/2/08, the residence of William Grant Hamm, located at 1180 Booth Street, Walnut Cove, was reported on fire by neighbors. On Thursday, 1/3/08 Bureau assistance was requested by the Stokes County Fire Marshal to assist in the investigation. The fire was determined to be incendiary in nature. SBI Canine Bristol produced 4 alerts in the area of fire origin. Investigation continuing.
January 02, 2008 **Homicide Investigation** Caldwell County**
On Tuesday, January 1, 2008, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Agents with the Northwestern District of the NCSBI were requested to assist in the homicide investigation of Irene McGee Pearson. Irene Pearson was allegedly murdered by her grandson Chad Eric Pearson. Chad Pearson was a sworn deputy and detention officer with the Caldwell County Sheriffs Office. The incident occurred while Chad Pearson was off-duty. Chad Pearson waited on the scene for deputies where he was taken into custody, charged with First Degree Murder, and placed in the Burke/Catawba County Jail under no bond. The investigation continues.
December 17, 2007 Forsyth County **Update**
Shamonte Arnell Green pled guilty on Friday in Forsyth Superior Court to two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to two consecutive life in prison without parole sentences. Green pleaded guilty to the execution slayings of Tab E. Morgan, Jr. and Elizabeth Katherine Nelson, who were killed in the Clemmons? home where they lived. Green was arrested less than a month after the October, 2003 deaths after investigators and a SBI lab analysis were able to link a .45-caliber Ruger handgun to two drive-by shootings and a home invasion robbery of a 68-year-old Winston-Salem man who was shot. Investigators also located witnesses who told of Green bragging of the homicides. Green was also earlier sentenced to life without parole in federal prison for being an armed career criminal.
December 14, 2007 **Homicide** Davie County
On Thursday, December 13, 2007, a Grand Jury in Davie County returned an indictment of First Degree Murder against Dentist Kirk Alan Turner for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Wittwer Turner, that occurred on September 12, 2007. Kirk Turner was arrested and a bond hearing is scheduled for today. Investigation is continuing.
December 11, 2007 Alexander County NC **Corruption Investigation**
On December 5, 2007, Barbara Autry Dellinger entered a plea in Alexander County Superior Court regarding her three felony counts of a correctional officer having sex with inmate, Michael Russ Hale. Dellinger pled guilty to one felony count of receiving bribes by a state official. Dellinger received 16 - 20 months in NC DOC suspended and 24 months of supervised probation with six months being intensive supervised probation. Dellinger also has to pay $1, 550.50 in fees and restitution.
December 10, 2007 Fire Investigation **Northwestern District**
On Friday, December 7, 2007, a fire was discovered inside the Howell's Farm Mart located at 63 Mullin Road in Avery County around 4:11am. Due to the size of the structure involved, the Fire Marshal requested that the SBI respond to assist in determining the origin and cause of this commercial fire. The origin of the fire was determined to have been in the area of the wood stove and chimney. The wood stove was active and rekindled around 11:00pm on December 6, 2007. The cause of the fire was determined to have been a fault in the block chimney as a result of a chimney fire. No foul play was suspected. No further SBI assistance has been requested.
December 03, 2007 Drug Investigation **Elon, NC**
The Elon Police Department requested bureau assistance regarding a drug related sexual assault which occurred in September 2007. A female Elon University student reported she was sexually assaulted by multiple individuals and a medical evaluation concluded she was exposed to a high level of Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate (GHB). The student suspected she was exposed while at the Lighthouse Bar near campus. The SBI conducted a Reverse Drug Operation on Friday, November 30, 2007. Grayson Chad Snyder, owner of the bar, was arrested on three felony, drug-related charges, and a search warrant was served on the Lighthouse Bar. Assisting Agencies: Elon Police Department, Alamance County Sheriff?s Office, and North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement
November 29, 2007 Watauga County
On November 29, 2007, the Watauga County Sheriff's Office requested SBI assistance after EMS was dispatched to 169 Clarence Newton Road, Blowing Rock NC and located Sharon Rominger Yates deceased. William Yates stated that himself, his wife Sharon Yates and others were at a residence on Laurel Fork Road prior in the evening. Mrs. Yates went outside and was gone for an unspecified period when Mr. Yates went outside to find his wife sitting next to a truck with injuries. Mr. Yates then took his wife home, where she later began having trouble breathing and EMS was contacted. Cause of death is pending autopsy and the investigation is continuing.
November 28, 2007 Burke County **Drug Investigation - Update**
On November 27, 2007, in Asheville Federal Court, Judge Thornburg sentenced Charlisa Kincaid, Dwayne Bullock and Tico Fleming for their roles in a Crack Cocaine conspiracy based in Burke County. Kincaid received a 90 month sentence followed by 4 years of supervised release, Bullock received a 108 month sentence followed by 5 years of supervised release and Fleming received a 210 month sentence followed by 5 years of supervised release. This investigation is continuing.
November 13, 2007 Harnett County, NC
On Sunday, November 11, 2007, The Harnett County Sheriff?s Office and the NCSBI executed a search warrant at 10 Elvis Lane, Fuquay Varina, North Carolina 27526. Items that were consistent with a Clandestine Laboratory were located outside the residence in a U-HAUL trailer with Georgia Registration LE8-4607.The Harnett County Sherriff?s Department requested the assistance of the NCSBI Clandestine Laboratory Response Team. Donald Ashley Ryals was arrested and charged with one count of Manufacture of Methamphetamine and four counts of possession of stolen goods and placed in the Harnett County Jail under a $240,000.00 secure bond. The investigation continues
