SBI Computer Crimes Unit

The Computer Crimes (Investigation) Unit is under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Kevin West. This is a Specialty Unit in the SBI. It is an investigative unit and not the Computer Forensics Unit which is part of the Laboratory. The Computer Crimes Unit Crimes Unit was established to assist local law enforcement in the investigation of highly sophisticated Computer Crime. This unit also assists other Bureau Agents in Computer Crime Investigations and provides support in developing other investigations where a computer is used for storage or commission of a crime.

The NC SBI Computer Crimes Unit is the lead Agency in the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children (or ICAC) Task Force.

There are seven full-time special agents assigned within this unit, who are highly trained in the investigation of Computer Crimes. Those Agents are stationed in the following areas: Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Fayetteville, Raleigh, Greenville, Jacksonville.
