Publications

Children's Internet Use: An Online Survey of Concerned North Carolina Parents
In 2004, the North Carolina Department of Justice surveyed 1,146 North Carolina parents concerning their children's Internet use. Most parents surveyed were at least somewhat concerned for the safety of their children while using the Internet.

Online Victimization: A Report on the Nation's Youth
In 2000, the Crimes Against Children Research Center surveyed 1,501 youths between the ages of 10 to 17. The survey suggests that young people encounter offensive episodes online, most of which are unreported.

Online Victimization: Five Year Later
In 2006, the Crimes Against Children Research Center conducted a follow-up to its original survey of youths between the ages of 10 to 17. Among its findings, the survey indicates that more young people are encountering unwanted sexual material online.

Internet-Initiated Sex Crimes Against Minors: Implications for Prevention Based on Findings from a National Study
In 2004, the Crimes Against Children Research Center published results from a survey of law enforcement which suggests that most offenders did not deceive their victims about the fact that they were adults who were interested in sexual relationships. The study recommends that teenagers receive direct education about why such relationships are a bad idea.

National School Boards Foundation offers "Safe & Smart: Research and Guidelines for Children's Use of the Internet"

North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry allows residents to search for registered sex offenders living in their county, city or zip code.
