Pornographic Images of Children

Background

The Internet has increased the sharing and trafficking of child pornography. Under federal law, child pornography is defined as the visual depiction of a child under the age of 18 engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Pornographic images of children are a form of child sexual abuse and exploitation. It is illegal to possess, distribute, or manufacture these images.

Online Predators

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, online predators may send pornographic images of children in an attempt to show the child victim that sex between children and adults is "normal."

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children operates the CyberTipline. Call 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) or visit www.cybertipline.com to report incidents or suspicion of child pornography.
