Message from the Attorney General

Teachers, principals and our law enforcement officers who work the halls as School Resource Officers are on the front lines in our fight against criminals who target kids, including those who use computers and the Internet. My mother taught in our public schools for many years, and I know how challenging these jobs are even in the best of circumstances.

Teachers have to be more than instructors. They are also caregivers to their students, and it can be tough to handle all of the challenges that arise at school.

To help educators deal with situations that may occur with computers and the Internet, my office has created the instructional video “Internet Safety: What You Don’t Know Can Hurt Your Students.”

This presentation will assist you in recognizing situations where criminal activity may involve a computer. Key points from the video are also included in a resource guide that accompanies the video.

A copy of the video and resource guide has been sent to all North Carolina public schools. You may also view the video online and download a printable copy of the resource guide on this website.

Please read the resource guide and educate yourself about Internet safety. Then use your knowledge to protect the children who are under your care from the dangerous side of the Internet.
