Marijuana Eradication
The State Bureau of Investigation also works to eradicate marijuana in the state and receives a federal grant to assist local and state law enforcement in these efforts. The Bureau's Air Wing Section, along with the North Carolina National Guard RAID and North Carolina State Highway Patrol Aviation Unit, fly the state looking for illegally grown marijuana. Experienced agents are trained to locate marijuana from the air.
North Carolina's eradication program has been very effective. In 2004, 35,965 total plants were eradicated. Of those, 3,393 were indoor grown plants. As a result, 86 total arrests were made.
