SBI Internship Program
The SBI Intern Program allows students to learn how a state investigative agency functions. The main goal of the program is to supplement classroom learning with practical experience by exposing the student intern to a variety of investigative activities. A student may apply, depending on their major, background and interest, to one of several internship opportunities. Applications from a variety of undergraduate disciplines are considered. The number of Intern candidates selected to participate in an Administrative, Crime Laboratory or Field Assignment is contingent on the needs of the Bureau during the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. The following are the application deadlines per semester:
Fall - May 1
Spring - October 1
Summer - February 1
A maximum of two intern candidates may be selected each semester for assignment to any Administrative Section, SBI Laboratory Section, Field District Office or Specialty Unit. All internships are unpaid, full time positions. However, an intern's immediate supervisor may provide consideration for class scheduling.

- Financial Crimes Unit
- Diversion & Environmental Crimes Unit
Eligibility
Interested applicants are required to work through their department chairperson or student advisor and must present a written recommendation from academic or school personnel. Candidates applying for an internship with the State Bureau of Investigation must meet several requirements:
- Responsible law-abiding citizen with high moral character and personal integrity.
- Enrolled in a four-year degree program at a college or university.
- Completion of the Sophomore year.
- Grade Point Average of no less than 2.5 in a 4.0 scale.
- Must not be convicted of a felony or any other serious crime; undergo a criminal history record check with favorable results.
- Maintains a favorable credit history demonstrating responsible fiscal management and ability to live within means; undergo a credit check with favorable results.
- Basic working knowledge and understanding of word processing computer programs.
- Hepatitis B Shot (series of 3 shots) prior to the internship commitment. (Crime Laboratory: Molecular Genetics Section Assignment only).
Applicants for internship in the Forensic Crime Laboratory must have a major or minor concentration in the biology, chemistry, forensic or natural sciences.

- SBI Intern Application Form completed in full and signed. Applications may be disregarded due to incomplete or missing information.
- Resume and List of References with updated and reliable contact information
- Letter of Interest from Student to SBI. Include reasons for wanting to participate in the program, ways you can contribute to the section, career plans, college and community activities, honors and awards.
- College Intern Application Form
- College Transcript in a sealed envelope. The transcript or envelope should be affixed with the seal or stamp of the school's registrar.
