UNC Pembroke Homicide Investigation Update

Raleigh, NC - On February 7, 2024, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) received a request from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) Police Department to investigate the shooting death of Khalil Tomas Alford, 19. The shooting occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on February 7th in the parking lot of the University Courtyard Apartments in Pembroke, NC. In the course of the SBI investigation and after consultation with the District Attorney, SBI agents arrested Kendell T. Brown, 22, on February 14, 2024. Brown has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm on educational property. After going before a magistrate, Brown was issued a $125,000 secured bond. Neither were students currently attending UNCP. Alford was a former student at UNCP. We do not believe there’s any further threat to the UNCP campus.
You may contact the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office for Brown’s mug shot. This is an ongoing investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
