SBI AGENTS ARREST VANCE COUNTY DEPUTY, CHARGE WITH OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE, EXTORTION

Raleigh, NC – Special Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have arrested a deputy with the Vance County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the narcotics unit.  The SBI began its investigation in June of 2020 at the request of the District Attorney.  After a grand jury indicted Detective Mitch Pittman on obstruction of justice and extortion charges, Pittman turned himself in at the Granville County Sheriff’s Office on November 5, 2020, where he was arrested by agents from the SBI’s Special Investigations Unit and charged with two counts of obstruction of justice and two counts of extortion.  Pittman was issued a $10,000 unsecured bond after going before a magistrate.  The investigation remains ongoing.  No additional information is available at this time.
