Teacher Pleads Guilty to Indecent Liberties with a Student

As a result of a nine-month SBI investigation, a former Rockingham County Middle School teacher today pleaded guilty to criminal charges related to a sexual relationship she had with a student.

Rebekah Gammon Wright, 28, of Reidsville, taught seventh grade at the middle school where she had a relationship with a 13-year-old. She is convicted of indecent liberties with a minor and sexual activity by a teacher. None of these incidents occurred at the school.

In a plea agreement, Wright will serve 26-50 months in prison and upon release will submit to two and a half years of satellite based monitoring. She will also be required to register as a sex offender for 30 years.

In November 2014, Sheriff Samuel S. Page requested the SBI investigate allegations of Wright having an inappropriate contact with a student.
