SBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Guilford County

 

Raleigh, NC – At the request of the Guilford County Sheriff, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting an investigation into an officer involved shooting that happened on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at 140 Penny Road in High Point shortly after 5 pm.  A deputy with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) responded to the address at the request of city employees who were working in the area.  According to GCSO, Corporal Kyle Mikesell encountered the homeowner, Boyce Melvin Thayer, an 83-year-old man who was armed with a gun.  The deputy fired his weapon striking Thayer who was pronounced deceased on the scene. 

Because this is an ongoing investigation, no other details can be provided at this time.  Please contact the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office regarding the deputy’s employment status or any other personnel questions.
