SBI Director to Retire in April

Director Collier cited personal reasons for his decision to make April 1 his official retirement date. Most importantly, the Director mentioned the need to devote more time to his family. 

RALEIGH – The Director of the State Bureau of Investigation announced his intention to retire today during an internal conference call with agency management.   

During his tenure with the SBI, Collier served as a drug investigator, pilot, arson and crime scene agent, canine handler, technical agent and bomb squad commander. Collier was director and special agent in charge of the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center, an SBI section that deals with criminal information and intelligence gathering. He was appointed director of Alcohol Law Enforcement in 2013. 

Collier was appointed acting Director of the SBI in August 2014 before taking the oath of office on July 1, 2015. As Director, Collier oversees more than 500 SBI and ALE employees across the state. Collier is the first SBI director to be appointed by the governor and confirmed by the General Assembly.  

“I am very pleased with the path the SBI is on and have great confidence in the current agency leadership,” Collier said.
